The East Texas Arboretum & Botanical Society in Athens, Texas, offers visitors over 100 acres of natural beauty, featuring formal gardens, historic buildings, and wooded areas with more than two miles of hiking trails. Established in 1993 on the site of a former truck farm, the arboretum showcases a variety of gardens, including butterfly, herb, rose, and native plant gardens. A notable feature is the historic Wofford House, a dog-trot style home built in 1950 and relocated to the arboretum in 2001, serving as a museum that interprets pioneer living. Visitors can also explore the Discovery Barn, Dream Garden, and the Little Red School House, among other attractions. The arboretum is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with an admission fee of $8 for adults. It serves as a hub for community engagement, offering educational programs, workshops, and events throughout the year.
